Verleden maand
woonde ik mijn jaarlijkse trainingsbijeenkomst bij, die nodig is voor mijn
toegang tot de staatsgevangenis. Tijdens deze trainingssessie, was er een
presentatie door 3 sprekers, die het Rooms-Katholieke, Protestantse en ht
Moslim geloof vertegenwoordigden en die hun geloofssystemen uitlegden.
Ik was in het bijzonder
geďnteresseerd in wat de Islamitische Iman te zeggen had.
De Imam gaf een
geweldige presentatie over de grondbeginselen van de Islam, met en video.
Na de presentatie was er gelegenhid voor vragen en antwoorden.
Toen ht mijn beurt
was, stelde ik mijn vraag aan de Imam: 'Corrigeer me a.u.b. als ik het niet
goed heb, maar ik begrijp, dat de meste Imams en geestelijken een Jihad (heilige
oorlog) hebben verklaard tegen de ongelovigen van de wereld. En door een
ongelovige te doden, wat een bevel voor alle Moslims is, is men verzekerd
van een plaats in de hemel. Als dat het geval, kunt u me dan een definitie
geven van een ongelovige?'
Er was geen onenigheid
over mijn stellingen en zonder aarzeling, antwoordde hij: 'Niet-gelovigen!'
Ik reageerde: 'Dus,
als ik u goed begrijp, worden alle volgelingen van Allah bevolen, om elk,
die niet bij uw geloof hoort, te doden, opdat men
naar de hemel kan gaan. Is dat correct?'
De uitdrukking
op zijn gezicht veranderde van iemans met gezag en leiding in die van een
kleine jongen, die juist was betrapt op het stelen van koekje. Schaapachtig
antwoordde hij: 'Ja.'
Toen stelde ik:
'Goed meneer, ik heb echt een probleem, om me voor te stellen, dat de Paus
Johannes Paulus alle Katholieken zou bevelen, om hen van uw geloof te doden.
Of Pat Robertson of Dr. Stanley, die de Protestanten hetzelfde zou bevelen,
opdat men in de hemel zou komen!'
De Imam was sprakeloos.
Ik vervolgde: 'Ik
heb er ook problemen mee, om uw vriend te zijn, als u en uw broeder geestelijken
uw volglingen vertellen mij te doden. Laat me u een vraag stellen: zou u
liever uw Allah, die u zegt mij te doden, om naar de hemel te gaan - of mijn
Jezus, die mij zegt u lief te hebben, omdat ik naar de hemel ga en wil, dat
Hij wil, dat u bij me zult zijn?'
Je zou een speld
kunnen horen vallen, terwijl de Imam zijn hoofd vol schaamte liet hangen.
Chuck Colson vertelde
me eens iets, dat me deze 20 jaar van bediening is bijgebleven. Hij zei tegen
me: 'Rick, denk eraan, dat de waarheid zal standhouden.'
En het zal standhouden!

Last month I attended
my annual training session that's required for maintaining my state prison security clearance. During the training
session, there was a presentation by
three speakers representing the Roman Catholic,Protestant and Muslim faiths who explained their belief
systems.
I was particularly
interested in what the Islamic Imam had to say.
The Imam gave
a great presentation of the basics of Islam, complete with a video. After the presentations, time was provided
for questions and answers.
When it was my
turn, I directed my question to the Imam and asked: "Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand
that most Imams and clerics of Islam have declared a jihad [Holy war] against
the infidels of the world. And, that
by killing an infidel, which is a command to all Muslims, they are assured of a place in heaven. If that's the
case, can you give me the definition of an infidel?"
There was no disagreement
with my statements and without hesitation he replied, "Non-believers!"
I responded, "So,
let me make sure I have this straight. All followers of Allah have been commanded
to kill everyone who is not of your faith so they can go to Heaven. Is that
correct?"
The expression
on his face changed from one of authority and command to that of a little boy who had just gotten caught
with his hand in the cookie jar. He sheepishly
replied, "Yes."
I then stated,
"Well, sir, I have a real problem trying to imagine Pope John Paul commanding all Catholics to kill those
of your faith or Pat Robertson or Dr.
Stanley ordering Protestants to do the same in order to go to Heaven!"
The Imam was speechless.
I continued, "I
also have problem with being your friend when you and your brother clerics are telling your followers to
kill me. Let me ask you a question. Would
you rather have your Allah who tells you to kill me in order to go to Heaven or my Jesus who tells me to
love you because I am going to Heaven
and wants you to be with me?"
You could have
heard a pin drop as the Imam hung his head in shame.
Chuck Colson once
told me something that has sustained me these 20 years of prison ministry.
He said to me, "Rick, remember that the truth will prevail."
And it will!
